MT: Ihear what your saying. Things just evolve and move on. I think 2006 is gonna be a hot year for British hip hop. Skinny’s good, Yungun is ready to blow as  is Jesht, and Roots Manuva
FR:
Definitely! So Mark, tell me who’s been the most interesting and for you enjoyable artists you’ve worked with in your career?
MT: That’s a hard one because I don’t wanna disrespect anyone by leaving them out! But I don’t know… Jesht, Tommy Evans, Fallacy, loads of American DJ’s. I mixed a BBE compilation with DJ Premier last year. That was crazy, because I respect that guy so much! What about you Paul?
FR:
There’s been so many great people along the way. I guess touring with Morcheeba and US3. There’s nothing like working with a band and doing big festivals and performing to 50,000 people! But also, I did a track on my LP with Skinnyman and that’s always interesting!
Here’s a question, I’m putting you on the spot now sir! Who’s your favourite DJ’s of all time?
MT: That’s easy and I’ve thought about that before. I judge a DJ on rocking the club not just cutting and scratching. So from that point of view Jazzy Jeff and Shortie Blitz are top of the game for me. No one, absolutely no one rocks a club like Shortie Blitz, he’s incredible. He just hits the decks and boom! The parties going off!
FR:
I hear you man. I’m gonna go for Mixmaster Mike. He’s like a sledgehammer on turntables. He’s got really heavy hands, an aggressive style and doesn’t mess about at all. Oh and I’m gonna big up little Plus One and Dilated’s DJ Babu. So iit's Monday today, the DJ’s day of rest! Where were you at the weekend?
MT: I did a show in London; I’m not going to name the club or promoter because it was terrible! The turntable set up was rubbish. Shabby desk’s, mixer and arms on the tables were all smashed up. But I guess it was partly my fault for not taking my own needles. I was furious with myself!
FR:
The thing is when people book us to DJ in a club, they just think ‘oh let just chuck the DJ up there, give him a big 15 foot long chocolate box mixer! They think we can just do what we do on anything. They don’t seem to understand, you need the right kit man!
MT: I know exactly what you mean, but no jobs perfect!
FR:
Yeh but sometimes it just goes tits up and you just can’t help it. I mean everyone you and me look up to, has had a bad day. We’ve both seen people like Q-Bert or Noise or A-Trak or whoever mess up. They’re only human at the end of the day like us.
MT: You know what it is… no matter how much time you spend practising , if you get to the club and the turntables are broken or rubbish there’s practically nothing you can do.
FR:
Like the needles are bent, or the shitty house DJ they booked the night before has fucked the system and run everything in the red for too long pitching their records at warp speed!
