London Elektricity Live: eating junk food, drinking, late nights & ridiculously early mornings, getting lost on the way to each gig, loosing weed, sharing rooms, pikey hotels, grimy dressing rooms, long sound checks, heavy lifting, water pistol fights, cards games, watching football together, catching colds off each other, puffy faces in the morning, festival toilets, occasional luxurious hotels and gorgeous food, lovely hospitality from the locals, hostile stares and abuse from the locals, long distance driving, road rage, hotel reception rage, pikey promoters, perfect creamy pinacoladas, big swimming pools and saunas, bible readings from Jungle in hotel rooms, fry-ups, complaining to managers in pikey UK motorway services, smiley faces at the front of the crowd having the time of their lives, even bigger smiles on the band’s faces after the gig.
These are some of the things that happened each and every day on tour in England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Czec Republic, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia,Turkey, New Zealand, and Brazil!
Tonight it’s the launch of the new album Power Ballads at the Scala, London. I walk in to see the auditorium packed with sweaty people, hands in the air, singing along to Remember The Future. Wrec’s hyping up the crowd, Landslide’s hitting out some grimy beats on 6 pads, Andy’s dropping fat melodious bass, Jungle’s rattling off machine gun tom fills, and Liane is bleeding every heart in the room dry. Tony’s creation has come alive and the crowd can’t stop smiling. That’s when I think, there’s no comparison on earth for this band, they are truly out of this world.
