Your DJ sets are getting almost cult status at the moment, after big slots at The Big Chill, TDK and The Bestival. Tell me how they’ve progressed recently.
Dom: We made a decision a couple of years back to just play what we wanted. It’s just an extension of the eclectic mash up sets that some DJ's play which for us are the most entertaining. To pull off a truly eclectic set takes some attitude and that’s really grown in us recently. We’ve always been confident DJ’s, but now we just love what we do and I think that’s coming out in our music more. In using MC’s and four turntables we offer something different; it’s set up for turntablism, but what you get is a club set to dance to… not to just watch. It would be great if the art of good DJ’ing came back to the forefront of the dance scene. There’s so many DJ’s now, but it’s still only a small percentage that can actually do it. Our mixtapes have helped us a lot, the amount of mail we get at our website is amazing. Doing a belting gig and then getting good feedback from punters makes the whole thing worthwhile. The festival circuit was very successful for us this year. We’ve definitely stepped things up a bit. With a new album in 2006 we should take things up another level again.
Word on the street is you have a radio show in development called The Mash Up’. What’s the low down on that?
Brad: We’re recording a pilot for a show, yes. It’ll be MC Wrec and us. We want to offer a show that is what we’re all about – good tunes and having fun. There’ll be no ‘sound’ as such, just a selection of great tunes, all genres, new and old. Anyone familiar with our sets with Wrec will know what to expect.
Had you not been successful DJ’s and producers - what would be doing now?
Dom: Well I would have loved to have been a footballer, my Grandfather Harry Betmead played for Grimsby Town and England. But I’m crap and my legs are too thin. Brad sometimes considers going back to his flower-arranging business, and I’m sure that his dream of managing Nottingham Forest F.C. still tugs at him.
