You’ve a huge portfolio of work, teaming up with DJ’s, producers, bars, galleries & of course street wear labels. Which of those do you prefer working with?
“I enjoy working with clients who trust me & give me the most creative license. Addict is a good example of this, we both know what is expected of the other which cuts out a lot of unecessary dialogue. I particularly enjoy producing music graphics & album covers, & working with international clients.”
How do you balance the corporate with the creative?
“Freelance is traditionally either feast or famine, so you have to make hay while the sun shines. If I feel a job compromises my ethics I’ll politely decline, but if it’s purely an aesthetic consideration I’ll have to be a little bit more flexible. Thankfully most clients know what I do, & therefore what to expect.”
Your association with Addict spans a lot longer than the three Artist Series collabs to date, it’s fair to say you’re part of the Addict family. How has it been working for the British brand over the years?
“I’ve done a lot of work with the company since it began & it’s been great to see it blossom & become internationally respected. We don’t have enough home grown creative industries becoming successful in this country, & despite some tough times Addict has been dropping quality British streetwear for 14 years, quite a feat.”
What does the future hold for Shogun?
“Bigger & better projects, new & exciting clients, fresh challenges, but above all to become more refined & accomplished in my process. Watch out for ‘Symbols Of Power’, the fourth collaboration with Addict Clothing, dropping Spring / Summer 2011...”
